THE LIFE AND TIMES (ex Shiner)
Allen Epley, a king of Midwestern indie rock (he headed the long-extinct Shiner with vocal/guitar magic), repositions himself on the throne with a new band. The Journey seems a mournful nocturne, reminiscent of one who’s slept half his life away, with lyrics that sigh breathlessly. There are ooh’s and aah’s sung in silent wonder as if they are ghosts of that lost day. Instruments work together to build a rock monument engraved with choruses one catches quicker than a cold. In all their gloomy wonder, barely-there vocals, keys, and violin awaken with razorblade guitars backed by measured and balanced drumming. It all erupts—swelling, cascading, and finally coming to rest in one hushed crash of the cymbal.
QUATRE TETE
They like to rock but tend to explore--for instance appropriating the structure of a traditional gamelan for a few instrumentals--and their incorporation of elements from classic rock, punk, and new wave attracts a disparate crowd. It’s not like they’re trying to break down barriers--they just don’t care about such things.
SOFT TARGETS (former mbrs of Seam / Circus Lupus / Lustre Kings / The Paperbacks / RNCD)
Soft Targets remain a power quartet.
*JOESEPI*
An oddly named and poorly dressed band consisting of fairly nice fellas, each of which not without some talent and experience with the rock music
We are excited about our show this weekend opening for three great bands: Soft Targets (former mbrs of Seam / Circus Lupus / RNCD), Quatre Tete and The Life and Times (ex Shiner).
[more details on each below]
We are playing first, promptly at 9PM, so that works great for all you early-birds (bed on time) and late-birds (great way to start the night).
